Giving the Sountracks genre a whirl again…

"Reflections of Earth" – Disney, Walt Disney World Millenium Celebration

"Creation of Tron" – Wendy Carlos, Tron

"The Prophecy" – Howard Shore, The Fellowship of the Ring

"The Unsung War" – Keiko Kobayashi, ACE COMBAT 5: The Unsung War

"Vespertillo" – Hans Zimmer, Batman Begins

trivia: Many don't realize this, but since video games can earn as much as (or more than) a mainstream movie, many of their soundtracks are as outstanding as their movie counterparts.

I need to pick up the LOTR Soundtracks. We played some of the songs in band back in the day and it was awesome.

I have an unhealthy love of the Offspring. I know they have passed their prime (probably a while ago) and almost all their stuff sounds almost the same, but dammit, theirs was the first CD I owned and the album that got me into the rock/alternative genre that still dominates my playlists. That's my explanation for my completist approach to the Offspring discography. Unsurprisingly given all that – I like 'Million Miles Away'.

      Peephole – System of a Down – (self-titled)
You Make Me Feel Like a Whore – Everclear – Sparkle and Fade
Over and Out – Foo Fighters – In Your Honor
I’m Designer – Queens of the Stone Age – Era Vulgaris
South Bound Saurez – Led Zeppelin – In Through the Out Door
Till the Morning Comes – Neil Young – After the Gold Rush
      Shame – System of a Down & Wu-Tang Clan – Loud Rocks
      No. 13 Baby – Pixies – Doolittle
Good Times, Bad Times – Led Zeppelin – Led Zeppelin I
Far Pavilions – … And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead – The Century of Self

And I've got a couple Zeppelin tracks to tie in with yours.

        Nice.

I still listen to Americana all the way through a couple of times a month. They're definitely past their prime, but am a sucker for whatever they produce.

    Friday 10: Short Week Edition

[Note: I’m sure you’ve already seen these lists going around the interwebs, so obviously this isn’t an original idea.  But I still like the idea of posting ten random songs from your chosen music library.  The rules are simple: Play your entire library of songs on random, and record the first ten that come up.  No matter what 10 songs appear, post them.]

I had a short week, working essentially Wednesday through Friday, we’ll see if my list reflects my week.  Here is my ten for Friday, February 20th 2009, hopefully Hanson won’t rear their ugly mugs again:

    1. Sum 41: Underclass Hero – “So Long Goodbye”
    2. Dashboard Confessional: The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most – “Again I Go Unnoticed”
    3. Green Day: Warning – “Blood, Sex and Booze”
    4. She Wants Revenge: This Is Forever – “Rachael”
    5. The Bravery: The Sun and the Moon [Sun Edition] – “Believe
    6. Matchbook Romance: Voices – “Monsters”
    7. Third Eye Blind: Blue – “An Ode to Maybe”
    8. Dynamite Boy: Punk Goes Pop – “I Want It That Way”
    9. The Beatles: Abbey Road – “Here Comes the Sun”
    10. Cold War Kids: Loyalty to Loyalty – “I’ve Seen Enough”

Hey a good list this week.  Although any rendition of “I Want It That Way” is inherently terrible, but “I’ve Seen Enough” and “Rachael” are some of my current favorites and a lot of the other songs are ones I’ve listened to quite frequently.  I’d say this list is a pretty fair representation of what types of music I was listening to on this short week.

What’s on your list for today?

It splits the difference between freak folk and stoner rock. I bought it (cheap–used) in particular because the band name cracked me up. I ended up enjoying a lot of the music.
