    Friday 10: Almost Married Edition

In just over twenty four hours, I will no longer be single.  Will the music be different on the other side?  We’ll have to wait until next week to find out.  Until then, here is my last random ten songs as a single person:

    1. She Swings She Sways – Wasted Love Songs: “Highway
    2. Eminem – The Eminem Show: “Square Dance”
    3. Angels and Airwaves – We Don’t Need to Whisper: “Valkyrie Missile”
    4. The Academy Is… – Santi: “Unexpected Places”
    5. Hellogoodbye – Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!: “Stuck to You”
    6. Incubus – A Crow Left of the Murder: “Here in My Room”
    7. Something Corporate – Galaxy Sessions: “Airports”
    8. OK Go – Oh No: “Let It Rain
    9. Vampire Weekend – Vampire Weekend: “Bryn”
    10. Coldplay – Coldplay Unreleased: “See You Soon (acoustic)”

If you haven’t heard She Swings, She Sways, I encourage you to check them out.  I think they’re an Authentic Records band but don’t count on that being correct.  If I remember to edit this post I’ll try to include a video of She Swings.

I felt a bit like a Strib1 commenter when I typed the Hellogoobye album titile.  Good thing the capital letters were under control.  Seems like Hellogoodbye’s work is getting a bit stale; they must have a new album on the horizon.

Something Corporate is awesome live.  I was walking around Warped Tour between a Finch and New Found Glory’s sets, and just happened to come across Something Corporate’s concert.  I think I may have been on my way to see either The Alkaline Trio or someone like that, but my SC stop was well worth missing bands I already knew.  I need to find out if they make it all the way out here to the east coast.

Except for the Eminem this list is pretty representative of the music that I normally listen too.  Perhaps one country song, and one harder rock song would have really made the sample more inclusive, but I really like this list.  Well that is what is on my list for today, May 29th 2009.

Jessica Simpson just started playing.  I didn’t know I even had any of her music.  Good thing this one came in at number 11 rather than number 10.

What’s on your list for today?

“This Time the Dream’s on Me” – Harold Arlen, “Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil soundtrack“
“Quebec” – Geoff Downes, “World Service“
“A Cry for Everyone” – Gentle Giant, “Octopus“
“Lost and Found” – Roger Eno, “The Night Garden“
“Go Forward” – Lisa Gerrard, “Whale Rider soundtrack“

“Leonard and Natalie” – David Julyan, “Memento soundtrack“
“Livin’ for You” – Boston, “Greatest Hits“
      “Go” – Asia, “Astra“

No bonus this week; Roger Eno got enough airplay this time around.

Congrats on the wedding. And you're right – She Swings She Sways is great stuff. Have you heard Dick Prall, an other Authentic artist? He's definitely worth checking out.

Friday 10: Studying Music Or Something Like That Edition

    Cover of "Almost Here"
    Cover of Almost Here

Well lets see what pops up on the ol’ Friday 10 random songs the week before finals:

    1. Hot Lava – 2009 Bar/None Records Sampler: “Apple+Option+Fire.”  I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve ever listened to this song.  Seems a bit above average, I’d give it another listen.  Labels must put the best songs on a sampler, or something like that.
    2. Weezer – Weezer (Blue Album): “My Name Is Jonas.” Guitar Hero greatly increased my enjoyment of this song.  Not that I ever didn’t like the song, but I am predisposed to like Guitar Hero songs.  Must be good marketing or something like that. See Rise Against: “Prayer of the Refugee” which became my favorite RA song after playing the game.
    3. Taylor Swift – Taylor Swift: “The Outside.”  Damn it. Getting back to my “roots” I guess, or something like that.  Taylor Swift is hilarious for an under aged female country singer so I guess that is a plus.
    4. Incubus – Morning View: “Circles.”  I wouldn’t mind if Incubus would pop up more frequently, I also wouldn’t mind a new album.  Are they still together?  I should pay more attention.
    5. Bloc Party – Intimacy: “Flux.”  Silent Alarm > Intimacy > . . . > Weekend In the City, or something like that.
    6. Live – Throwing Copper: “Selling the Drama.”  Live must be good live.  Its self defining, or well I think you know.
    7. Finch – What It Is to Burn: “New Beginnings.”  I wish Finch wouldn’t have broken up so early in their career, I spend a lot of time rocking out to this album.
    8. Kenny Chesney – Be as You Are (Songs from an Old Blue Chair): “Old Blue Chair.” The title track isn’t the best song on this album.  I’m not sure Chesney owns any shirts with sleeves.
    9. The Academy Is… – Almost Here: “Classifieds.”  I’m not sure if they’ve dropped the “…” yet.  They need to get on that.
    10. John Mellencamp – The Best That I Could Do 1978-1988: “Cherry Bomb.”  Is that really the best John Cougar could do?  Good song to end the list.

I’ve set WMP to only play the “jazz” genre:

“Crystal Silence” – Gary Burton & Chick Corea “Crystal Silence“
“Chameleon” – Herbie Hancock “Head Hunters“
“Nights in White Satin” – Deodato “Deodato 2“
“Spain” – Chick Corea & Return to Forever “Light as a Feather“
“Earth Jam” – Béla Fleck & the Flecktones “Outbound“
“Cats of Rio” – Dave Grusin with Lee Ritenour “Harlequin“
“Chia’s Theme” – Chuck Mangione “Journey to a Rainbow“
“Black Ice” – Jeff Lorber Fusion “Lift Off“
“No Mystery” – Return to Forever “No Mystery“
“Sky Blue” – Passport “Sky Blue“

Ended up with three title tracks in the list.
