Friday 10: The Ballad of Honeymoons and H1N1
[Edit from Mexico: I'm apparently not good at remembering to schedule posts that I've written. So I'm doing this from a funky Mexican computer. A couple of keys are different on the keyboard which surprised me a bit. Onto the 10. Oh everything went according to plan below.]
If everything has gone according to plan, I was married last Saturday and am now spending time with my wife in Cozumel, Mexico. We decided that the H1N1 virus couldn’t scare us from our original plans. I’ll let everyone know whether or not that was a sound decision.
- Matt Kearney – Nothing Left to Lose: “Undeniable”
- Yellowcard – Paper Walls: “Fighting”
- Lost Prophets – Start Something: “Sway”
- Dierks Bentley – Long Trip Alone: “Trying to Stop Your Leaving”
- Elton John – Greatest Hits, Vol. 2: “Tiny Dancer”
- Daniel Powter – Daniel Powter: “Song 6”
- 30 Seconds to Mars – 30 Seconds to Mars: “Year Zero”
- Snow Patrol – Eyes Open: “Shut Your Eyes”
- Augustana – All the Stars and Boulevards: “Marie [Bonus Track]”
- Frank Sinatra – “One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)”
Matt Kearney is a pretty good way to start this list: something all genders can enjoy. Or something along those lines . . .
Fighting is a great running song, and one of my favorites from Paper Walls.
What am I fighting for?
There must be something more.
For all these words I sing,
Do you feel anything?
As far as I’m concerned Dierks Bentley can do no wrong. There I said it. Long Trip Alone is a terrific country pop album, full of songs about losing your girl/dog/job while still sounding upbeat.
Tiny Dancer is on of my wife’s favorite songs. It probably has something to do with her years spent in ballet. Or her love of sequins. Or her appreciation of large glasses.
I know how some of you feel about 30 Seconds. You’re wrong.
I don’t like it when one of the best songs on an album is a “bonus track.” Bonus tracks should be things like remixes, b-sides, or acoustic versions, especially when the bonus track could have replaced any of the non-bonus songs and made a better album to boot.
The bookends seem appropriate enough.
What is on your list for June 5th 2009?

Definitely Dierks! Anything and everything Dierks! I totally agree–he can do no wrong. LTA did not get nearly enough recognition–although it did get 4 grammy nods! Feel That Fire — his new album is "stuck" in my CD player. Sideways is really fun and upbeat…and I am ready for the next single…"I Wanna Make You Close Your Eyes"…that would be a great one for you honeymooners! Congrats!
