It always seems that the end of July coincides with the end of summer, even though there is little different between July and August. I guess we ought to just celebrate the remnants of summer. With that in mind, here are 10 random songs for July, 31st 2009:
- Kings of Leon – Only by the Night: “Use Somebody”
- Franz Ferdinand – You Could Have It So Much Better: “What You Meant”
- The Starting Line – Direction: “Birds”
- Green Day – Warning: “Church on Sunday”
- Thursday – Full Collapse: “Cross Out the Eyes”
- Thursday – War All the Time: “Division St.”
- Dave Matthews – Some Devil: “Some Devil”
- Steve Miller Band – Steve Miller Band Live!: “Abracadabra”
- Guster – Parachute: “Scars & Stitches”
- OK Go – Oh No: “Here It Goes Again”
Warning is easily the Green Day album I’ve listen to most. That cd didn’t come out of my car player for weeks. “Cross Out the Eyes” is probably my favorite Thursday song, at least that I can think of off hand. I need to revisit their albums still this summer. Lo and behold, another Thursday song pops up next, funny how that works. I’m not much of a Dave Matthews fan, but the music has its time and place I guess. For some reason I much prefer Guster to DMB, but who knows why.
I think this list fits summer pretty well. What’s on your list today?

Of all of Steve Miller's great hits, "Abracadabra" is his "biggest". Oh well.
Trying to get work done before (hopefully) heading off to trade in a clunker for a new car; here’s what’s popping up on the media player:
“Komm Susser Tod, Kom Sel’ge” – Gordian Knot, Gordian Knot
“Deadly Nightshade” – Brand X, Masques
“Homecoming” – Yellowjackets, Samuria Samba
“Life’s Incredible Again” – Michael Giacchino, The Incredibles soundtrack
“Pixel Dream” – Ozric Tentacles, Live at the Pongmaster’s Ball
“Girls with Guns” – Tommy Shaw, Girls with Guns
“The Doomsday Machine/Goodbye Mr. Decker/Kirk Does It Again” – Fred Steiner, Star Trek TV soundntrack Vol. 1
“I Go to Rio” – Pablo Cruise, Worlds Away
“The Balance” – The Moody Blues, Question of Balance
“Dead Already” – Thomas Newman, American Beauty soundtrack
Back to the grind!
Definitely not my favorite SMB song.
