Friday 10: FTown or Bust

I’ve been in Fargo all week. This trip to Fargo may be my longest stay in 4 years, and may well shape up to be the longest I’ll be here for quite some time. I better get my fill of Juano’s, Mexican Village, and Santa Lucia while I’m here. I can’t believe people go to FIVE Applebee’s in town instead of all the great independent restaurants in the area. Here’s my random ten songs for today:

  1. No Use for a Name – More Betterness!: “Let It Slide”
  2. Tim McGraw – Greatest Hits, Vol. 2: “She’s My Kind of Rain”
  3. Aerosmith – Aerosmith’s Greatest Hits: “Dream On”
  4. Bloc Party – A Weekend in the City: “Hunting for Witches”
  5. Saves the Day – Can’t Slow Down: “Collision”
  6. The Killers – Sawdust: “Where they White Boys Dance”
  7. Better Than Ezra – Greatest Hits: “King of New Orleans”
  8. Saves the Day – Through Being Cool: “The Last Lie I Told”
  9. Avril Lavigne – Under My Skin: “Nobody’s Home
  10. Hawthorne Heights – The Silence in Black and White: “Silver Bullet”

I find it funny that No Use for a Name has a five word name.  They should have gone with ___ instead.

Bloc Party’s “Hunting for Witches” is probably the reason I don’t regret picking up A Weekend in the City.  I wish more of the songs on this album would have lived up to my expectations, even if those expectations may have been a bit high.  I know I said the hierarchy of Bloc Party albums goes something like: Silent Alarm > Intimacy > A Weekend in the City, but after listening to AWitC again, I may move it to the middle, or at least equal to Intimacy.  Sadly, neither album approaches Silent Alarm’s stratosphere.

“Take me to the place to where the white boys dance. Take me to the place where they run and play.”  Anybody have any idea where the Killers are looking for?  My money is on Reggie Bush for King of New Orleans. Orleans doesn’t have a king, but they may have a Duke or maybe an Earl.

I’m not sure I’ve listened to any other album1 more than Through Being Cool.  I still listen to it frequently all the way through.

Nobody rhymes “boy” with “boi” like Avril. Ugh.  Hopefully Hawthorne Heights will erase any memories of Avril popping up on this list.  Well that’s what came up on my random list for Friday May 22, 2009.

What came up on your list today?

  1. This is a lie.  I probably have listened to all of Garth Brooks’ early albums more, but that was from my childhood cassette era.  Through Being Cool is from my CD era.
