    Photo: Busted Truck

Well this picture isn’t from a run or DC for that matter.  Last week my parents hit a deer while on their way home from Jud, North Dakota.  They were both fine, but their Ford Expedition was not:

    Busted Ford

The whereabouts of the deer are unknown at this time, but it must have been a large deer, even the radiator was completely destroyed.  The truck had to be towed at least 20 miles to Jamestown, and my parent’s had to borrow a car to drive home to Fargo.  Oh yeah, it happened on Father’s day so my dad probably would not call the 2009 iteration his favorite.

Here’s the map of the photo, this time from Flickr1:

Anyway, I just thought the actual photo was mildly interesting.

    Friday 10: June Madness

Its a hot June here in DC, here’s my list for June 26th 2009:

    1. Cold War Kids – Robbers And Cowards: “Red Wine, Success!”
    2. Band of Horses – The OC Mix 6: “The End’s Not Near”
    3. Red Hot Chili Peppers – By the Way: “Can’t Stop
    4. The Strokes – Is This It: “Barely Legal”
    5. Cold War Kids – Loyalty To Loyalty: “Mexican Dogs”
    6. Blink 182 – Blink 182: “Down”
    7. Spoon – Gimme Fiction: “I Summon You”
    8. The White Stripes – Get Behind Me Satan: “The Denial Twist
    9. Box Car Racer – Box Car Racer: “There Is”
    10. Yellowcard – Paper Walls: “Shrink The World”

A Blink/BCR and Cold War Kids heavy mix.  I’m certainly not complaining about the Pop/Punk Rock feel of this week’s list, although I’m wondering where that OC soundtrack came from because I’m 100% certain that I’ve never seen the show.

What’s on your list this week?

Photos: CP, WP and In Between

Here are my some more pictures from my run this morning, June 26th 2009.  Today I actually carried my old Sony DSC-P100 Camera in my pocket so the pictures should be a bit less grainy.  The pictures are again around Cleveland, and Woodley Park in DC:

Looking south in the direction of Dupont Circle from the middle of the Connecticut Avenue Bridge which goes over Rock Creek Parkway below.

    DSC02918

Looking north toward Woodley Park from the same Bridge.

    DSC02919

The lamp posts on this bridge1 have cast eagles on top.  I like eagles generally, and it is getting close to the Forth of July.

A building in Woodley Park is looking down on us.

A picture of the trees that grow below the Conn. Avenue bridge over the Klingle Valley.

A look at the commercial part of Cleveland Park.  This shot from Macomb looking north toward Ordway on the east side of Conn. Avenue.

Further up Conn.  Looking south toward Ordway.

Finally, a picture of the Firehouse here in Cleveland Park.  The road was really busy so it was pretty lucky that the picture I took didn’t have any cars in it.

    PicMap2

Once again here is all of the pictures on a map of the Cleveland Park, Woodley Park, Rock Creek Park Areas of DC.

    1. For the life of me I cannot remember the proper name for the bridge right now.  I know it has a name, but couldn’t quickly find it.

ND in News for Breast Feeding Abuse?

Odd news out of Grand Forks, North Dakota rolled across my desk1 this afternoon:

A North Dakota woman accused of breast-feeding her 6-week-old baby while drunk has pleaded guilty to child neglect. Stacey Anvarinia, 36, could face up to five years in prison when she’s sentenced on the felony charge in August.

North Dakota woman accused of breast-feeding child while drunk pleads guilty to neglect charge.

I know I have a weird obsession with national news that comes out of North Dakota, but I just can’t help from posting this stuff.

I’m sure this situation with the drunk mom breast feeding her baby is a problem.  Without knowing any of the pertinent facts, I can’t judge whether I think the mom should be prosecuted or not.  I doubt she gets five years in prison for this though.

What an odd case.  Take it to heart drinking mothers:  You’ve been warned by North Dakota.

Get out of the news North Dakota.

    1. A figure of speech, it actually wasn’t my desk

    Photos: Cleveland Park Run

I’m going to try out a new format for posting photos.  I used to have a page showing an RSS feed of my recent running photos, but the plug in I used was both clunky and boring.  I also didn’t like that there was no indication of the front page that I had updated the photo RSS.  So while I updated the photos frequently, there was little other information with the photos to make them worth while to document.

So I’m going to try making some photo posts when I update my running pictures instead.

I generally run with my Blackberry and not with a “real” camera, so the quality of the images varies greatly.  I’m hoping the next iteration of phones have higher quality cameras.

These photos are from June, 22 2009.  I ran [if I can call it a run: I'm out of shape] back behind the National Zoo and then up along Connecticut Avenue from Woodley Park, back to Cleveland Park.  I stopped to snap a couple of pictures:

This photo was taken from the west side of Conn Ave.  I think I liked all of the signs on the building, but the sun was too bright to get a good snap shot of the all.

This is a picture looking down at the underbelly of the Conn Ave brigde which crosses Klingle Valley Park.

This is just another picture of some of the bridge’s features.  I like to stop and look over the green railings; it must be the sense of vertigo that entertains me.

    Current Pictures on a Map

And here is a map with the photos’ locations marked, thanks to picasa.  I had to take a screen capture and upload the image because apparently you can’t embed these maps.  Hopefully they’ll add that feature soon, because not being able to have an interactive map embeded is unfortunate and janky.
